Water hyacinth is a free floating perennial plant that grows in ponds. It's an aggressive invader that can form thick mats. If these mats cover the entire surface of the pond they can cause oxygen depletions and kill fish. So harvesting water hyacinth is doing an environmental favour. In the Philippines and India, water hyacinth is dried and used for making home decor pieces.
